Therapy Services
Holm Psychological Services provides individual therapy to children (ages 6 and up), adolescents, & adults. In-person and virtual/telehealth options are available to best serve your therapy needs and preferences.
Child & Play Therapy
Children learn about their world through play. Because children do not have the same language skills and cognitive understanding as adults, we need to use a different approach to help them to express themselves in a way that makes sense to them. Play therapy is an evidenced based intervention that is used to help children address various emotional, behavioral, and relational issues. Common goals for play therapy included helping the child learn to identify and express feelings, helping them to better explore and process their emotions, and learning tools or strategies to help them to better regulate with emotions and behaviors. Holm Psychological Services provides therapy/play therapy for children ages 6 and up.

Adolescent Therapy
Teens may seek therapy for a variety of concerns/or issues, ranging from anxiety, depression, ADHD, school or work issues, self-esteem, peer or family relationship challenges, just to name a few. No matter what the focus of therapy, teens need to feel that therapy is a safe and private space for them to express and process concerns. That being said, it can often be helpful for teens to also involve parents or caregivers in their treatment, especially if issues involve parent-child or family relationship challenges. Family involvement also offers parents an opportunity to better understand their teen and/or the issues that they may be struggling with, as this can help parents in learning how to best support their teen. At the intake appointment, the therapist will review important policies related to confidentiality (as well as limits to confidentiality) of the teen's treatment so that both the teen and parents have a mutual understanding about the teen's privacy in therapy.
Adult Individual Therapy
Individual therapy with adults can look very different from person to person. This all depends on your specific preferences and needs. Some people prefer a more structured approach and request lots of information, resources, or skills to help them to problem solve around issues or challenges that they may be experiencing in their life. Others may prefer to have an open space where they can talk through, “vent,” or verbally process about what is going on in their lives and through doing so gain insight and a better understanding about themselves and/or their situation without feeling judged or forced into homework or other assignments for therapy. And yet, others prefer a mixture of both! Wherever you find yourself on this spectrum, at Holm Psychological Services you will have a safe space to explore your thoughts, feelings or challenges and collaborate with your therapist to determine what you need and what would be most helpful for you in your therapy session.
